Ways of Turner: Tracing His Northern Tour – Exhibition Opening
Saturday 4th October 2025, from 2pm
Join us at Brantwood for the opening of our new Studio Exhibition, Ways of Turner: Tracing His Northern Tour by Swiss artist Monika Müller.
The afternoon will begin with an Artists’ Talk between David Hill and Monika Müller, introduced by Brantwood Director, Howard Hull. This will be followed by a concert installation featuring excerpts from Graphite Scores in the Coach House Loft. Guests are then invited to view the exhibition in the Severn Studio and enjoy light refreshments.
This special event celebrates Müller’s five-year project retracing J. M. W. Turner’s 1816 northern tour—an ambitious journey originally intended to produce 120 landscape views for publication. Inspired by Turner’s unrealised vision, Müller created her own 120-part series of graphite and pencil drawings, blending abstraction with topographic detail and informed by David Hill’s extensive research into Turner’s travels.
Complementing the drawings, composer Thomas K.J. Mejer developed Graphite Scores—a sound installation of 120 unique tones performed on bass transverse flutes, creating an immersive dialogue between art and music.
The exhibition runs in the Severn Studio from 4 October – 21 December 2025.
