Fells, Lakes and Waterfalls by Chris Mouncey

Exhibition of Watercolours and mixed media

Personal Statement

Over the thirty years or so that I have been living in the Pennines and painting professionally I have had time to explore the effects of light and weather on my surroundings. For this, watercolour seems to me the perfect medium.  My paintings are a response to these constant changes, especially my landscape painting, which reflects my love of my surroundings as I travel through some of the wildest parts of northern Britain on any journey I take.  I often paint from memory, especially my miniature landscapes, as the light and sky I want to capture shift so rapidly and dramatically.

Chris was born in Felixstowe, Suffolk, in 1954 and was brought up in Billingham, Teesside.  He now lives in the Durham Dales, with his wife, Val, who is also a painter. He has painted watercolours as a profession since 1980, specialising in landscape, seascape and architecture.  Many of his works are in public and private collections in this country and abroad.
