OPEN AIR THEATRE BY ILLYRIA
Five couples – three human, one fairy, and one mythical – find their relationships sorely tested, intimately probed and indecently exposed when a troupe of amateur theatricals bumble into the forest to rehearse a play. Shakespeare’s timeless comic masterpiece explores every colour in the spectrum of love, from arranged marriage to elopement, from infatuation to hatred, from chivalric devotion to raw sex. Add to this bawdy mix a heady brew of confusion, magic and mischief, and you have the most perfectly frothy comedy for a moonlit summer evening.
The award-winning Illyria Outdoor Theatre is celebrating its 30th anniversary. To mark this milestone they are re-staging popular shows from their back catalogue. This will include an outdoor version of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream this Summer. “Over the last thirty years, we have performed top-notch outdoor theatre to over a million people across the country,” said Artistic Director Oliver Gray. “It’s a great chance for everyone to come together, enjoy the British summertime and be entertained.”
A Midsummer Night’s Dream is over 400 years old but Illyria promises that it is “as exciting today as it ever was”. It promises to be a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the return of being able to get together again and particularly on this Summer Solstice evening.
