Treasure from Dust: the geology of John Ruskin

Talk by Brantwood Director, Howard Hull

Ruskin could not resist the wonder he felt at the ability of the earth to form itself into crystalline treasures and spectacular mountain ranges. He set himself to understand the processes of change that governed the earth and from this understanding he developed many of his principles for life.

The talk is a precursor to a new permanent display about Ruskin’s geology which is to be created at Brantwood which will feature over 2000 of the finest mineral specimens from Ruskin’s core geological collection as well as his manuscript catalogues.  The collection was acquired by Brantwood earlier this year and hitherto has been in private hands and has never been displayed in public.

Tickets are £7 per person (includes a drink on arrival).  Booking required on 015394 41396.  Doors open at 6.30pm, talk starts at 7.00pm.  The Terrace Coffee House & Restaurant will stay open prior to the talk.  To book a pre-talk meal, please contact The Terrace (theterrace@brantwood.org.uk).
