Artist Kate Houghton began her residency at Brantwood in early 2017.
Drawing the Ferns of Brantwood
Kate originally trained in sculpture and her paintings focus on forms of growth making those found in plants central to her work. In her residency she has developed a series of drawings and paintings based on Brantwood’s fern collection. Her residency will culminate in an exhibition of paintings which will go on display in The Loft in May 2018.
Kate Houghton was born in Preston 1954. She gained her MA at Reading University going on to win a Boise Travelling Scholarship from Slade School of Art. Her plant paintings have been exhibited at Leck Gallery, Lancaster University and Oxford Botanic Gardens and she has work in the collection of Nottingham University dept of Plant Sciences. Kate also works as a mural artist and illustrator.
