Sandra Orme is one of the North West’s leading pastel artists and workshop tutor. She teaches annually at The Ashmolean Museum in Oxford and has exhibited her work at the Pastel Society annual show at The Mall Galleries, London. She is an associate artists with one of the best pastel makes in the world, Unison Pastels. In this third workshop with Sandra at Brantwood, you will draw inspiration from the stunning setting of Brantwood. On day 1, learn to create dramatic pictures with sweeping rain and on day 2, look to blue skies ahead, creating fluffy white clouds against a beautiful blue sky.
You will explore using layers of pastel on specialist pastel paper and can expect to produce two pieces of unique work. Specialist pastel paper will be provided for you day along with basic pastels. However, we recommend that you purchase or bring along a few pastels of good quality- for example Unison or Sennelier- as this will help you develop the work further. Please bring a packed lunch or lunch can be ordered from the cafe downstairs, refreshments provided within the course fee.
Day 1- Rain swept hills
In this class we will learn to use layers of pastel on specialist paper to create rain swept lake district scenes. You will explore using wonderful stormy colours to create wild weather and clouds along with experimenting with mark making to show not only the rain but also the sun breaking through the clouds.
Day 2- Blue skies ahead
Creating fluffy white clouds against a beautiful blue sky may seem simple but there’s lots learn about layers of delicate colour – and using every colour apart from white until the last layer! Come along and learn all the tricks to produce stunning pastel pieces that really recreate wonderful sunny days.
